Prior to automation in the banking Industry, bank clerk used to do base work relating to customer service and it was supervised, checked, and authorised by Officer of the bank. After automation, bank clerk has to shoulder more responsibility (hitherto handled by Officer) and perform the duties of a mini-officer. For classification purpose, bank clerks are considered as Workman (they can form Union and fight for their rights) whereas Officer are considered part of Management (they can form Association).
