It is distinguishable from gift economies in many ways; one of them is that the reciprocal exchange is immediate and not delayed in time.Barter system used to be practised earlier in as tge basis of all trade and commerce on marketing as to exchange of the things which you have with someone to get what he has.So basically ot was the exchange of the things according to needs and utility of commodities and as per the need basis the value of things were determined not the price.e.g.i have rice in my godown but need the wheat so if you have wheat and needs the rice we may exchange it as per the need and requirement so was the case of other commodities whether food,clothes or raw material or other stuff.Hope you get it now
