The sky appears blue when viewed from Earth because of scattering of light particles I.e blue light gets refracted wherever there is atmosphere. As there is no atmosphere in space, astronauts see the actual colour of sky I.e black.

Sky appears black to an astronaut because there is no atmosphere in space and so there are no particles to disperse light from the sun. because there is no atmosphere to scatter light in the space. Because the sky is blue to us by the light being scattered through nitrogen.

Due to absence of scattering of light in space, the sky appears dark instead of blue.

In outer space atmosphere is absent and hence such scattering doesn't occur. Thus the outer space appears dark to an astronaut in space. read less

Stepping up for your career path

As an astronaut movers far away from the earth atmosphere and-fly at very high altitude in the space the medium becomes rarer. Due to the absence of air molecules or find particles there is hardly any scattering of light that is why the sky appears dark to an astronaut flying at very high altitudes as...

Teaching techy

It's because the astronauts are above the earth's atmosphere and hence the light does not get scattered as it gets scattered as seen from under the atmosphere. So the astronauts see black sky.

1.when sunlight passes through the atmosphere, there fine particles scatter light,of different wavelength of respective colours.2 the scattered resultant light enters our eyes and the sky appears blue 3.when astronauts fly at higher altitude the same sky appears dark , because there is atmosphere and...

the colour of the the sky depends on viewer angle. the blue sky is due to scattering of light. scattered light moves towards earth not above .... so astronauts can not see blue sky ..
