Electrons revolve around the nucleus in 3-D orbits. In these orbits there are further subdivision of space to accomodate electron namely orbitals. These orbitals are s, p, d & f according to there shape. S- spherically symmetrical and hence give SHARP signals of electron. P- dumble shaped and show PRINCIPAL or only main signal in the spectra. D- double dumble and gives DIFFUSED spectra due to its large size. F- has 7lobes around it and thus give FUNDAMENTAL signal which is just identified.
