I think the problem that most people have is that they try to play TOO MUCH. They here all the complicated parts (keyboards, drums, guitar) in the song and they try to play them all. That is usually not possible. The guitar part is usually much more straightforward than the sum of all parts.
On a practical side - make sure your arm is always wholly relaxed. Practice strumming and chord changes separately - e.g. grab the neck muting strings and practice strum until you produce satisfying chunk-chunk rhythm. Then add chord changes.
