To understand the basics of drums, you first need to know how is drum notation read!
- The quarter note contains a Stem with no tail.
- The eighth note has a stem with a tail
- The sixteenth note has a stem with two-line tail
- Cymbal Note indicates cymbal strike with a Cross underneath the straight line
- Triplet is when you see three stems with no tails grouped with a line above.
- Ghost notes are the silent notes, denoted with a small notation, generally accompanied with accented notes.
- The diamond shape indicates Bell notes.
