French is a Romane language, i.e. a language outcome of the Vulgar Latin. It is spoken in France, as well as in Belgium, Canada, Luxembourg, Switzerland and in 51 other countries, mainly located in Africa, having for most is part of the old French colonial empire as well as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the former Belgian Congo. French, Royal language, becomes a legal and administrative language with the order of Villers-Cotterêts in 1539. The French Government is trying to take measures to protect the integrity of the language. Thus, on 7 January 1972, it promulgated the Decree No. 72-9 on the enrichment of the French language, providing for the creation of the ministerial committees of terminology for the enrichment of the French vocabulary. The Law TOUBON of 1994 proceeds in the same concern. His decree of application of 1996, has put in place a coordinated mechanism for the enrichment of the French language. read less
