I would prefer a store as you can try the guitar and decide if you like it. You can also check for any issues before purchasing. If they can do a setup it's a plus.
However if the model you want is not available in stores near you then buying from online can be an option as long as the website is generally well reviewed and has a good return policy.

If case you get a defective piece so you can change or return. I personally suggest you to go to a musical store if you can. Go along with someone who know how to play guitar (even a little bit like basic chords or scales) so he/she can check the quality and tone of the guitar. And if you visit a musical store then you can try different models from different brands. Also at some places, the store providers free bag and strap and some basic services as well.
