IELTS Test Dates & Centres
Currently, there are more than 1000 centers, in over 140 countries. The British Council offers IELTS tests at 42 locations across India. Each centre offers tests up to four times a month. There are up to 48 test dates available per year. The test dates differ for IELTS academic and IELTS general training. The IELTS academic is available on all 48 dates and IELTS general training is available on 24 dates per year. Tests are mostly held on Saturdays and Thursdays to offer flexibility and convenience.

You can register for IELTS exam at any time of the year. You can apply and pay online or download the registration form. British Council India registration 1) Online registration -- Choose the test dates, centre and complete other application details.
- Pay through debit/credit card (Visa, Visa Electron, MasterCard).
- Download the IELTS registration form.
- Choose the test date, centre and complete other application details.
- Pay by demand draft or by cash or ICICI bank deposit slip.
- Provide a Blue Dart courier serviceable address on the registration form as the IELTS study book and the test report form (TRF) will be sent to that address.
- Candidates applying to UK universities need to register separately for ‘IELTS for UKVI’ Life Skills test.
IELTS Test Cancellation & Transfer
IELTS test cancellation and transfer procedure
- Candidates can cancel or postpone the IELTS exam at least five weeks before the test date.
- Candidates who request a cancellation or transfer of the IELTS exam at least five weeks before the test date will receive the refund.
- Candidates who request cancellation or transfer of the IELTS exam within five weeks of the test date will receive the refund after deduction of cancellation/postponement fee.
If you cancel the test or request a transfer for medical reasons, medical evidence has to be provided within five days of the test date.
The application has to be sent through email or post. If the application is approved, the test centre will refund the amount by Demand Draft to the given address.
Fee paid online will be refunded to the bank account that was used for making online payments.
- Payment done at ICICI bank will be refunded through NEFT.
- For a reason other than a medical issue, there is no refund.
- Candidates are allowed to transfer their test date only once.
IELTS Test Eligibility Criteria

IELTS Test Results
- You can preview your IELTS test results online, and you will get your IELTS test report by post 13 days after the main test. It is announced by both British Council and IDP IELTS examinations.
- You will not be able to obtain your results over the phone, by email or by fax.
- IELTS test result is valid for two years.
- You can arrange for additional original copies (maximum of five) to be posted to receiving institutions such as universities, immigration officers, etc.
- Additional copies are available to any institution upon request. You will have to pay a fee of Rs. 500 per Test report form. Additional copies are only available up to two years after the date of registration.
Re-Mark or Re-Take The IELTS Test
- If you are not happy with your IELTS result, you have two options: retake the IELTS test or ask for re-marking.
- If you think that you deserve a better score, you can ask for re-marking of your results. You can request to re-mark the whole test or any part of it (listening, reading, writing or speaking).
- You must apply for remarking within six weeks after obtaining your original test results.
- Your test is re-scored by senior examiners who are unaware of the marks awarded for each of the modules.
- The test center is then notified about the re-mark result.
- A new test report form is issued if there are any changes in your score. The process of remarking takes around seven weeks.
- If there are any changes to your score, your remark fee will be refunded.
- You can use the test result in which you have scored the highest and make sure the result is not more than two years old.
3 reasons why your IELTS test may get delayed
When you apply for IELTS test, you will find the terms and conditions attached to the form. There you will see three points which explain that your results may be withheld or cancelled.
You may not receive your results after 13 days because of three most common reasons :
