Paras Kumar

From a very early age, I was very fascinated by the fact the natural phenomena around us can be defined into mathematical equations. My keen interest in solving challenging problems led me to qualify all three stages of International Youth Maths Challenge (IYMC2019) and obtain a bronze honour (top 15% in the world) in the final round. I was perpetually drawn towards research as opposed to cramming and staying with the bounded syllabus of school. Following my passion for research in physics, I started working with Dr Sangeeta Prasher (KVM College) on "Molecular interaction between binary liquid phases using ultraviolet radiation" and was given an opportunity to write a working paper on my obtained results. I was among five students selected from India to represent in International Young Physicists' Tournament (IYPT 2019). At IYPT, I focused on two specific research areas – 'decay of Newton cradles' and 'thermal lens spectroscopy'. As part of our high school team for CERN's 'Beamline for Schools' competition, I'm working collaboratively to put together proposal for to verify double-slit experiment in high-energy particles and method to find their size in DESY-2 accelerator and their application in medicine.
