To Improve Or Build Up Your Vocabulary.
Vijayasree R
With 25+ years of experience in teaching, I am a dedicated teacher who can create interest in a child...
One of the best ways to improve or build up vocabulary is to write or use one-word substitutes for the given phrase. It is very important to write precisely and speak in a single word. Like the word autobiography can be used in place of the sentence, "The Life History Of a Man Written By Himself". This not only makes the language easily comprehensible but also makes it beautiful.
The other way, we can say that these words are used to bring an effect of compression in any kind of writing, for example in business communication there are instances when we have to write a lot within the limitation of time and space, there this kind of words can prove quite handy.
In the English language, there are a lot of words for a group of words that can be used effectively to make the writing to the point that too without losing the meaning of the context.
1. One who is recovering from illness = Convalescent
2. One who loves mankind = Philanthropist
3. One who copies from other writers = Plagiarism
4. One who hates women = Misogynist
5. One who knows many languages = Polyglot
6. One who is present everywhere = Omnipresent
7. One who works for free = Volunteer
8. A place where orphans live = Orphanage
9. A sentence whose sentence is not clear = Ambiguous
10. A study of animals = Zoology

How to remember the formulas while writing the exam?
Vijayasree R

Whatever we have learnt, it is very important to produce in the exam, so that we can score the best scores/grades/marks.
1) Understand the concepts
2) Try to make some easy way to remember
For example: When you are learning Trigonometry,
In the below table, to remember first write the denominator as hypotenuse.
Then just write perpendicular in the numerator (in the first column i.e, Sin), then as base in the second one, I.e., cos. Finally in the tan first by second i.e, perpendicular/Base. So, we should try to have some clues so that we try to remember and do the sums with correct formulas
Sin | Cos | Tan | |||||||
Perpendicular/hypotenuse | Base/hypotenuse | Perpendicular/Base |

Special Needs Education? General Guidelines for Parents.
Prerna Gulrajani
I am an experienced remedial teacher / special educator. My areas of specialty are Slow Learners, ADHD,...
This is perhaps not the first time you are hearing these questions if you are the parent of a child with special educational needs. You however may be all at sea regarding the course of action you must take. Here is a concise write up of what a parent can do to help their special needs child.
Basically there are 3 steps to helping your child. The first obviously is identification. Next comes diagnosis and the third is intervention and support.
Identification
As you may be thinking, this is the simplest of all. As a parent you will probably be the first to suspect your child is facing some difficulty in coping with his school work. His books would be incomplete. He would be constantly punished in class for inattentiveness, not completing his work on time, not sitting still and being generally disruptive among other things. Unfortunately most of these issues are often misinterpreted as laziness, defiance, and childish pranks. A child with LD however will be different from his peers in other ways. He will not be as social as other kids and will be unable to perform even when working one on one with zero distractions. The simplest way to determine whether your child needs help is to have him sit down in a closed room and give him a simple task to perform preferably from a lower grade. If he is unable to do this, you would know that your child is facing some difficulty in learning.
Diagnosis
The next step is diagnosis. As a parent you may suspect your child has special needs. However it is important to identify the specific areas in which your child is facing difficulty.
There are several standardized tests that are administered by qualified mental health professionals to do this. Your child will be tested for several skill sets. These include reading, comprehension, writing, memory, general intelligence, motor skills, hearing, vision, and cognition, and social skills. The tests are administered under what may be termed as “laboratory conditions”.
One thing of note is that though the tests are standardized, they are not like other medical tests which have a clear outcome in mathematical terms. Though the results are quantified, the quantification is highly subjective since the performance is influenced by multiple factors. It is therefore extremely important to be frank and open with the professional administering the test particularly about the circumstances under which the child is being raised. It is equally important to understand the results of the tests fully in order that you can provide support for your child.
Intervention
Intervention would depend greatly on diagnosis. When you approach a practitioner, he may ask for a case history all over again although everything has already been documented. Parents often find this frustrating and suspect it is just a means of earning an extra buck. This is not true. Unlike other sciences, psychology by its very nature is highly subjective. It is important for the practitioner to take a complete history and understand intimately the problems that your child is facing. This will help him deal with the child in the proper way and address the issues he is facing.
What is Intervention?
As we said earlier, intervention practices vary greatly depending on diagnosis and specific difficulties. The practitioner will identify the difficulties your child is facing. These are generally termed as areas of concern. He will then determine the plan of intervention. He will then devise an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) for your child.
The IEP usually does not involve school work. What the practitioner works on is the study skills of your child rather than the studies themselves. That is to say, the practitioner will help your child with reading, writing, understanding basic concepts, and memorizing. In addition other areas such as behavior, neurological problems, and physical issues may also be addressed.
What is Your Role as a Parent?
As a parent you must work with the practitioner to help resolve the difficulties your child is facing. Your continued support and loving care for your child is all that is required to help your child develop into a fantastic man or woman.

What does a Remedial Teacher do?
Prerna Gulrajani
I am an experienced remedial teacher / special educator. My areas of specialty are Slow Learners, ADHD,...
A remedial teacher is a person who helps children facing difficulties in academics to catch up with their peers.
Difficulties in academics and drop in grade occur due to one or more difficulties such as an inability to recognize alphabets and words (dyslexia), an inability to process complex instructions, an inability to comprehend instructions, or other difficulties.
A child who is facing difficulties in coping with his school work usually faces other difficulties at school such as ragging by peers, bullying, and scolding from teachers (and sometimes parents too). All these factors demoralize the child and further add to the problem at hand.
A remedial teacher helps identify the areas of concern and help the child overcome his specific difficulty. Remediation is a long process and success depends on four main factors – the child’s capabilities, parental support, circumstances at home, and support from school. Depending on these factors a child may take from 1 to 5 years to catch up to his peers.
A remedial teacher guides not only the child but also the parents on how to deal with the issues (both academic and non academic) and overcome them. The course is conducted using therapeutic practices to give the child a wholesome growth.
During the course of remediation the teacher will adopt a holistic approach focusing on all the areas of concern and helping the child cope.
For example when a person loses a leg, the therapist helps him walk with prosthesis. Similarly a remedial teacher will teach the child to deal with his difficulties and overcome them in the best possible manner.

It is absolutely essential for parents to look for special educators beyond their locality. What they need to find is somebody who would be willing to travel for the child. Also, parents need to understand that the teacher will dedicate a good amount of hours to the child, so they must not try to negociate the fees all the time. They have to understand that their service will come at a price.
