"I often heard people say — technique is power. I admit I hadn’t understood the essence of what it meant until I had a session with Harshadbhai. He demonstrated that you don’t have to be powerfully built to defend yourself. Certainty, strength is an advantage but not having a strapping frame — or in Indian context being a woman — doesn’t make you feeble. If you have the right technique, you can outthink and outmanoeuvre anybody. So ‘power’ also means greater skill, which gives you an advantage over your opponent. He also showed various exercises to strengthen the core. Women seldom realise how excess fat gets quickly accumulated around the hip owing to careless diet and want of physical activity. There’s only one regret I had after the session with Harshadbhai. I asked myself: why didn’t I train with him earlier? "
