Let the number of stamps Ram had be "a" and the Number of stamps Ankush had be "b"
Total number of stamps together held = 4500
Given : "a + b" = 4500, and "a" had 4/5 of b
let us find 'b"
a + b = 4500
therefore "b" = 4500 - a
by the given statement "a" = 4/5 of "b" we get a = 4/5 ( 4500 - a) ( * - By substituting b = 4500 - a )
then a = ((4500 - a) X 4 ) / 5
a = (18000 - 4a ) / 5 or 5a = 18000 - 4 a
or 5a +4a = 18000 or 9a = 18000 therefore a = 18000 / 9 which gives a= 2000
if a = 2000, then b is 2500 ( since a + b = 4500)
therefore Ram had 2000 stamps and Ankush had 2500 stamps
