During my teaching career, I have developed and implemented comprehensive lessons focused on phonics, blends and digraphs to enhance students' reading and decoding skills. 1. Introduction to Blends and Digraphs: I introduced students to common consonant blends (e.g., "bl," "st," "gr") and digraphs (e.g., "ch," "sh," "th") through direct instruction. 2. Interactive Activities: I incorporated hands-on activities such as word sorting, where students grouped words by blends or digraphs, and matching games to reinforce recognition. I also used sound boxes to help students break down words into individual sounds, focusing on where blends and digraphs occur in words. 3. Guided Reading and Writing: I guided students in reading short stories and sentences containing targeted blends and digraphs. Through repeated practice, they gained confidence in identifying these sound patterns in context. Additionally, students practiced writing words and sentences, using these phonics patterns to improve their spelling and fluency. 4. Assessment and Feedback: I regularly assessed students' progress through oral reading exercises and written activities, providing immediate feedback and additional practice as needed. These assessments helped me tailor instruction to meet individual student needs, ensuring each learner advanced in their phonics abilities. By using a variety of teaching methods and incorporating both individual and group activities, I effectively helped students master blends and digraphs, laying a strong foundation for their reading and writing development.
