This course is designed for students studying 1st year MBBS course. It is well structured according to the syllabus prescribed by various medical universities across India and strictly according to the latest MCI norms. The course majorly emphasises on basic scientific aspects of biochemistry with relevant clinical reference. In addition the students also get training form the perspective of examination. According to the examination pattern students appear for two papers namely paper 1 and paper 2 (50 marks each). The topics confined in each papers will be dealt separately.
Syllabus of paper 1 is as follows:
Chemistry and metabolism of serum proteins, carbohydrates, lipids. Metabolism of purines and pyrimidines. Special emphasis on metabolic disorders and their clinical association in each cases.
Importance, deficiency and toxicity of inorganic elements viz., Ca, P, Na, K, Fe, I and Zn.
Role of vitamins and harmones in metabolism
Biochemical tests for liver diseases.
Membrane biology
Syllabus for paper 2 is as follows:
Molecular and functional organisation of cell.
Enzymology, clinical significance of serum enzyme levels.
Chemistry of nucleic acids.
Molecular biology. DNA replication, transcription, translation, post translational modifications and protein targeting.
Outlines of molecular mechanisms of gene expression and regulation; basic concepts of clonning.
