Nitrogen fixation is a process by which atmospheric nitrogen is converted to ammonical nitrogen or related nitrogenous compounds in the soil. It is done by "Rhizobium" bacteria present in the root nodules of the roots of all types of leguminous plants or crop. E.g. Soybean, Gram, Mung, Urd, Arhar, Lentil etc.
Azotobacter is another bacteria which helps in nitrogen fixation. But it is a free-living bacteria which is found in soil, not in root nodules.
