  • Initial consonant blends: /bl/ as in black, blue, and blind; /kl/ as in clean, clip, and clock; /fl/ as in flower, fly, and flat; /gl/ as in glad, glue, and globe; qu (/kw/) as in queen, quick, quack, quiet, and quit
  • Final consonant blends: nt, sp, st, nk (/ŋk/) as in sank, sink, sunk, link, and wink
  • R-blends: When the second letter in a two-letter consonant blend is an "r," it's called an r-blend. Most of the consonants above can be found in r-blends as well. For example, "brag", "bran", "brim", "crab", "cram", "crib", "drag", "drip", "drop", "drum", "Fred", "from", "frog", "grab", "gram", "grip", "grid", "prim", "prod", "prop", "trap", "tram", "trip", and "trim"
