"Transforming your struggles into success"

To tune a piano yourself, you'll need a tuning hammer, a pitch pipe or tuning app for reference, and patience. Start by tuning the middle A, then adjust the other strings relative to it, checking octaves and harmonics as you go.

It's generally not recommended to try tuning a piano yourself without proper training and equipment, as you could end up damaging the piano. However, if you are certified to tune specific makes, you can try these steps: Use rubber wedges to mute the strings you aren't working on. Place the tuning lever on the top of the pin and gently turn. Turn the pin clockwise to raise the pitch, or counterclockwise to lower it. Use an electronic tuner to ensure you don't tune the note too sharp or flat. Tune in octaves relative to the first note you tuned. For example, once you've tuned middle A, use middle A to tune lower A. Pianos sound best when tuned to A-440, which means the A4 is tuned so that sound waves vibrate at 440Hz. A professional piano tuning service can cost around $100 to $200, or $70 to $100 per hour, depending on the piano's age and location. If your piano is severely out of tune or hasn't been tuned in a while, the price may be higher. read less
