Conflict Management and reference point
I am giving here one excellent technique to manage your conflict. Conflict may are internal or external—interpersonal or group. Whenever a dispute arises, we feel tense. Negative emotions dominate us, and as a result, we are in misery.
Types of conflict:
- Inta Personal Conflict
- Interpersonal Conflict
- Intergroup Conflict
- Interdepartmental Conflict
- Inter-organizational Conflict
The primary source of conflict: Disagreement in goal
Whatever experience we gained, whatever knowledge we gather or whatever skill we acquired it is stored in a container. We call that container storehouse or unconscious mind. Some people say the subconscious mind. Any incident happens with us that time our judgmental mind starts gathering reference from the storehouse. Our actions and decisions are based on those references.
Suppose I meet any person today after a long gap of 20 years. My faculty of mind start gathering information about his personality how he behaved with me 20 years ago. Of course, what information or reference will come in my mind is the same way what I experienced 20 years before. Is it that personal behaviour is same even after 20 years later. May mayor not be? But our references are ready for that to make decisions. In psychology, we use the words stereotype or hallo effects similar to that.
So once we understand how to change the reference point and manipulate our internal representation, we can easily manage conflicts.
Benefits of changing reference point:
- Conflict resolution
- Overcoming negative emotions
- It helps to maintain a positive attitude.
- New perspectives for decision making
- Flexibility in behaviours
- Leading a happy life
