Any language is a means to communicate and interact with others. In our day to day lives we come across so many simple situations which require us to make small talk. One great topic for this can be discussing the Weather.
If we learn a few simple words pertaining to weather and practice them as and when we get a chance we can have a great conversation with anyone we wish. Here in this lesson is a basic and simple list of weather vocabulary that can be used at the very basic level by a beginner of spoken English.Lets start-
SUNNY- When the sun is shining bright and the sky is clear we say, "wow! its a sunny day." If someone says the same to us we reply , "oh yes, its a lovely day".
WARM-when the weather is very warm, we are sweaty, thirsty and uncomfortable with all the heat we say, "it is so very warm". If someone is saying the same to us before we even mention the weather we can respond by saying, "indeed, the temperature is rising". Rising temperature here refers to very warm weather where the temperature is above 35 degrees or so.
COLD- when the weather is cold and we cover ourselves well to protect our bodies from cold temperatures,we love warm soups and teas and coffees, we say, "its extremely cold". Of course, if someone you are talking to has already mentioned that it is cold you can carry on by saying,"oh yes, its freezing". Freezing refers to the cold weather.
PLEASANT- when the weather is neither cold nor warm we say ,"it is pleasant". During this period we are comfortable being indoors and outdoors as the temperature is not extreme and we can enjoy the comfort of a "lovely weather".
RAINY-this is my favourite weather. During rains we can see children enjoying in the puddles, and grown ups enjoying tea and fritters. The whole nature seems to celebrate rain. When we meet someone when it is raining we simply say,"its raining".
CLOUDY- when the sky is covered with white puffs of clouds we say'"it is cloudy".
This brings us to the end of this lesson, keep trying to speak these sentences related to the weather till you master them.
There is so much more associated to Weather vocabulary such as, rainbows, raindrops, blizzard, tornado, hurrcane, snow, hail, storm, drought, flood, flurries, lightening and so on. Be curious to explore more after you learn some of the basic words.
As they say ,"BE curious, keep learning".
Till next lesson keep practicing, keep mastering.
Best wishes.
