Carnatic music, known as Karnāṭaka saṃgīta or Karnāṭaka saṅgītam in the South Indian languages, is a system of music commonly associated with South India, including the modern Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. It is one of two main subgenres of Indian classical music that evolved from ancient Hindu texts and traditions, particularly the Samaveda. The other subgenre being Hindustani music, which emerged as a distinct form because of Persian or Islamic influences from Northern India. The main emphasis in Carnatic music is on vocal music; most compositions are written to be sung, and even when played on instruments, they are meant to be performed in gāyaki (singing) style.

When children take piano lessons, it’s usually because their parents wanted them to. But children often don’t enjoy the type of music they learn, or they hate practicing. So they quit.
But as an adult, YOU have control over what you learn. You’ve had a lifetime to develop your musical taste, so your musical literacy is likely more advanced than a child’s. So approach the piano with your unique goals in mind, goals that matter to you.

The main function of a chorus singer is to blend in, not stand out. Fullness of voice is not really a requirement. A soloist, in contrast, has to be able to stand out, and have a voice that is well trained with accurate pitch, full tone, and can carry. These differences require very different things from the singer
