Ambu Vijayan

I am an experienced bioinformatician with my masters in biotechnology and 5 years of work experience within the field of bioinformatics which I acquired from several projects at ICAR- Central tuber crops research institute, Indian institute of spices and from my experience as a bioinformatics consultant for masters and doctoral students all over India and abroad. My expertise is in analysing NGS data. In-depth studies and analysis of cassava, sweet potato was performed during my work at CTCRI along with many other data sets of various species. Given my extensive knowledge in NGS data analysis and implementing pathways and knowledge of handling tools, I know I can fit in and bring out the most of this project.
I have extensive knowledge and experience using open source tools for NGS data analysis. To name a few I use on a daily basis are Trinity, Trinotate, GATK, SAMtools, BWA, Bowtie, TopHat, ANNOVAR, DESeq, edgeR, Cufflinks, FASTQC, Trimmomaric, cutadapt and Bedtools. I use galaxy for online parallel work for projects that don’t demand too much data size. I have galaxy installed locally too to run some projects which doesn’t need much computational resources. I am very well versed in using leading Bioconductor packages for NGS data analysis. I have five years of experience using R and python. Currently I am developing an R package which is a dream project, As of now I am working on basic sequence analysis for the package but the idea is to develop a full pathway for NGS data analysis using available tools and custom made ones as one R package. I have experience using commercial NGS analysis tools including Omicsbox by Biobam but i prefer using open source tools. Also I have experience using containers like docker and conda environments. I have an excellent track record as a hard-working member of the laboratory team and always ready to lend a hand and offer suggestions when invited. My research and writing skills have been well developed over the past six years of research.
