Carnatic music originates from South India whereas, Hindustani Music is from North India. Carnatic music is homogenous and Hindustani, hetrogenous. Carnatic music doesn't have any gharanas whereas, Hindustani music has several like Lucknow, Jaipur, Kirana, Agra, etc.
