I teach Cinematography Training , Color Grading, Disco Jockey Training, Film Direction, Film Editing, Music Arrangement, Music Composition, Music Production, Video Editing and Videography Classes.

I have been teaching for 10 years.

It is essential to listen to the music carefully. That's why most of the singing teachers are recommending instruments while singing.
Your ears are there to guide your mind about correct music theory.
So if you have a proper speaker that can produce good music, You can use it as a reference point to sing and practice correct notes/rhythm.
You need to understand your goal.
Sometimes students get stuck in instruments and unable to focus on singing.
Learn instruments only if you enjoy the instruments. Is it really helping you to sing better?
If you want to learn singing, focus on that only.
At the last, remember to experiment.
