Is it essential to know how to play an instrument to learn singing?
I call total BS on it. :D Bold statement to start with but it's true that learning an instrument would be a good to have and not must to have kind of a prerequisite.
People sing on top of backing track and eventually you'll notice yourself going out of tune and when you sing it again you'll force yourself to sing on the same scale as the backing trackn and that's how you'll learn how to be in scale.
Take another example you might feel like the flow og your vocals is not right that's when you'll infuse your own style with the backing track and make your vocals flow with it.
Don't let any statement stop you from trying things differently and that's what music is all about. :)
read lessNo, it is not necessary, but of course, if you know any instrument, it helps you as a reference. Sometimes you may not understand the exact frequency of a particular note; in that case, you can use any of your instruments to listen to that specific note again and again as a reference. But it is possible to learn vocal music without an instrument.

No, it's not essential. But if you do learn to play an instrument, then it has a huge added benefit. If you learn a melody instrument like piano, keyboard, guitar, etc., it will help you understand many aspects of a song like a chord progression, scales, and many such things. If you learn a rhythm instrument, it will benefit you to understand challenging and detailed aspects of rhythm like layakari, and it will also improve your rhythm sense a lot. It can help you much more than you could imagine.
I hope this answers your question.
Happy learning!☺️
