There are numerous strategy, parameters and guidelines to contemplate, look at and to follow while launching a product or service for intended customer or consumer. Among various, there is one basic fundamental rule or criteria to ponder before preparing to introduce a product or service for the target customers. One is Point of Parity (POP) and other one is Point of Difference (POD).
POP: While introducing a product or service one should always take care to retain the core purpose and attribute of the product without getting baised by own's thoughts' paradise. It must solve or target the basic fundamental problem of the target customers as the others' competition product or service is doing without getting eccentric. For example: if a company introduces a toothpaste then it must serves to clean teeth and mouth while it may target other attributes to keep it different and unique staying relevant to use.
POD: As staying relevant is mandatory in customer's perspective, the product or service should also have unique attributes and features to make it smart and different from other existing competition product and srrvice. Keeping point of differences would always help to restrict one's product or service for becoming commodity in market and could always fetch you premium and create sales traction. Like example: toothpaste with Ayurvedic attributes.
