roasting is a process in metallurgy. when a sulfide ore is heated in air by roasting process may convert to a free meta l oxide or to a free metal. like example:- roasting ZnS may yeild Zno and roasting HgS may yeild free Hg metal.

They usually take the peanuts in a vessel and heat it but the they keep they lid of the vessel open so that there is air. As u know , major portion of air is made up of nitrogen or oxygen. So, in short v r roasting the peanut. In place of peanuts if v put ore or sulphide minerals and apply the above process, we will be doing a process called roasting.
