Ion is a charged atom/molecule. They are formed either by gaining or losing electrons, which is done so that they acquire inert gas configuration. If the atom/molecule loses an electron, it becomes +ve charged and called a cation, if it gains an electron it becomes -ve charged and is called an anion. Some examples of cation are Na(+), Ca(2),H(+).etc. Some examples of anion are Cl(-), F(-), O(-2).

An ion is atom/molecule which is charged. There are two types of ions cations(+ve) and anion(-ve). They exist in ion form to get inert gas configuration which makes them more stable. If an atom/molecule accepts electron(s), which makes it negative charged so-called an anion, if it loses an electron(s), it eventually becomes positively chared so-called cation. Examples of anions Cl(-), F(-).etc. Examples of cations H(+), Na(+), Mg(+2).etc.
