Many a times we feel the need to use a cell to act as headers for data flowing in two directions -- Rows and columns and for this purpose we may want to add a diagonal line to accomodate the two headers .. But how do we add a diagonal line to a cell.!!! The simplest way to do this is to use the borders feature of a cell.

In MS Excel 201O and later versions you can achive this by the following steps.

Step 1

  1. Select the cell where you want to add a line diagonally
  2. Right click the cell and click on format cells
  3. Click on the Border tab
  4. Under the sub header titoled Border, where you see the various ways in which lines can be added to a cell, selct the diagonal line, lower left to upper right or upper left to lower right..whichever you need.
  5. And what you get is a cell with a line drwan diagonally.

Step 2

Another way to achive the same thing is by pulling the format cell screen by clicking the little arrow under the group titled as FONT under the home tab. Once the format cell window appears, you can follow step 3 and 4 as mentioned ablve to draw  diagonal line
