Developing the skill of speaking English fluently:
English is just a language as any other language. It is just a media through which we express our ideas that run in our mind. But to master a language, we need to inculcate certain habits.
What are these habits?
- Shed fear: First and foremost, it is important that the speaker sheds fear; the fear that others would laugh at the mistakes made.
- Observe and practice correct pronunciation: Watch TED talks, English TV shows, English movies. Spend specific amount of time watching English programs and observe the pronunciation of the words and try guessing the meaning of the new words you come across. Practice the new word learnt in your day-to-day talks.
- Forget grammar: Let grammar not frighten you. It’s ok if you make small errors. Regular practice will automatically correct your grammar.
- Be an extempore: In your daily discussions just talk. Never prepare in advance. Let your ideas just flow.
- Conversation: It is not necessary to talk on a topic every time, a general talk between two people for few minutes will do the needful, will also help in developing socializing skills.
- Look at yourself: Stand in front of a mirror and talk to it. Observe how you speak. Mirror will help you improve your body language.
Above all:
- Develop self-confidence: Speaker needs to believe in self and gain confidence. Keep motivating and say to yourself “ It is Possible”.
