The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an all India entrance test conducted by National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to under-graduate and post-graduate degree programs like LL.B. & LL.M. The CLAT examination is conducted by the 18 National Law Universities of India. The examination is conducted subsequently by the preceding universities according to their joining in CLAT format. The CLAT 2017 was conducted by Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala. The total numbers of seats offered by the all NLUs are around 2342. The first CLAT Core Committee consisting of Vice-Chancellors of the seven participating NLUs at that time decided that the test shall be conducted by rotation in the order of their establishment. Accordingly, the first Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) was conducted in the year 2008.Candidates need to clear CLAT in order to secure admission in BA LLB (Hons), BSc LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), BSW LLB (Hons), BCom LLB (Hons) and LLM programmes on offer at the NLUs. Till last year only 18 NLUs accepted CLAT scores to fill 632 LLM seats and 2352Â LLB seats, however, this year a new NLU has been added to the list, taking the number of NLUs accepting CLAT scores for admission to 19
CLAT 2018 eligibility criteria requires candidates to fulfill multiple aspects so that they can apply and thereafter appear for this law entrance exam. Candidates would be eligible to apply for CLAT 2018 if they have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum of:
- Forty Five percent (45%) marks in case of candidates belonging to General/OBC/Specially abled persons categories
- Forty percent (40%) marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/STcategory.
Also, candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April 2018 are also eligible to apply.
